I mostly fly fish. For reds I use a number of flies, but, as my ole' fishing buddy used to say, "All you need is a gold bendback".

If I'm using conventional gear then I'm using Strike King's Zulu jerk baits. I LOVE them.

I've been wade fishing (yes, no boat to protect me) with gators in the water.

My conclusion is that they want nothing to do with people. Hey gators, feelings mutual!

I really don't worry about it. Like Snook-One pointed out, I'm more concerned about gators in residential areas. People get the "dumbs" down here quite often and start feeding them.

Once that's established (food source), old rules are out the window. What once was perceived as a threat to them is now a meal.

Take care,
Ed

Rick,
The two dimples in the seat area,Just make sure you center where you drill. I used a 7/16 drill bit and drilled through to the scupper hole that is unter the seat area. You can use a soldering iron to seal out the hole. Just make sure you don't drill into the side of the suupper hole that goes into the inside of the kayak. It worked out fine for me,couldn't be any happier.

Fun day fishing today. The weather was a little off, cool with some drizzle. But the Northern Pike didn't mind at all and I caught 4 decent size pike. Sorry, but no camera so no pics.

I LOVE Kayak fishing. :)

Update on anchor trolley.

DON"T USE CLIMBING ROPE. Twice the rope has shrunk on me after getting wet. First i thought I made a mistake when I set it up so I bought some more rope and did it again. This time I made sure it was nice and loose. Worked great again.

But today when I tried to attach it to my kayak, it was too tight. The rope shrinks after getting wet.

I am going to try it again (third time), but this time I will try some nylon rope. I can't imagine that will shrink.

Well not much luck this weekend on the white oak river in NC. Luckily the hurricane did not have much of an effect where i was. However the water in the river was extremely high all weekend. Fishing was very slow and tested my patience. 3 small red fish (no keepers), 1 flounder(also not a keeper), and one extremely small speckled trout about the size of my hand. Caught them all on 3 inch Berkley gulp shrimp in the root beer gold color. i threw everything i had at them. I tried top water Zara spooks, super spooks, mirror lures. i tried red fish magic spinner baits. Also tried live shrimp and Berkley gulp peeler crabs and swimming mullet. Hopefully as the water starts to cool down the bite will pick up.

Thanks for all the input. I believe that the statement less is more to be pretty much gospel. If you get caught up in adding all the rigging and other gadgets that the manufacturers try to push, your Yak doubles in price. Plus the added weight became crazy! Now I leave most of it behind and just fish. Love the forum.

I have read experiences of some using two-part epoxy. It works fine, but you better be ready to commit--it will be permanent on the transducer. Not so much on the hull, though, since I'ver heard that not even epoxy sticks too well to thermoplastics. I, too, would say that too many good experiences with Marine Goop suggests that it is a good solution. I'm counting one-and-a-half years with no trouble...not shabby!

Yes, like any carbon fiber paddle they are at the top of the price range.

I have an old Accent Sprint. I don't know if they make that model anymore. I paid $250 for mine.

Epic also makes a variety of wing paddles. I just googled them. They are all in the $300 - $500 range. Here is a link to Epic products: http://www.epickayaks.com/products/paddles

For me, it has been worth the money. I was using an Adventure Technology Fish Stix before I converted to a wing paddle and haven't used it since.

Now, in the e-mails, they all say that I can unsubscribe from "My Profile." I don't see it. Am I blind?

I can unsubscribe if I pick each thread from "My Discussions" and unsubscribe from each one individually. At this rate, I'll be unsubscribed sometime next month! :-O

Any improvements on the way in this area? Thanks!

I am a IT Consultant. I resell computer equipment (Servers, Software, Laptops, Dell, HP, Cisco, Microsoft...etc). We also sell other items like Ram Mounts like if a county was buying a bunch of Panasonic Toughbooks and needed a way to mount them in their police cars.

Basically, Ram is way down the list on the millions of items that I resell...but I recognized the name from a project I worked on a few years ago. Being a dealer, I can save you some money off the price but I really do not know much about the stuff.

I want to be about help out my fellow Kayak Fishing friends.

Email me the part numbers and I will get you a quote!

My buddies are the same. All they think is John boat. They have been out with me a couple times standing on the bank and watching me paddle around to the good fishing spots. He was like..."you are all set...got your poles, gear"...I think for a second he could picture himself out on a yak. Then his hard-headed OK self came back and he said..."but that is not my style." lol

"Probably not...cause you have no style!"...I thought to myself. lol

Anyway...I am looking for like minded yak fishing buddies.

Pencil me in for Monday. I am supposed to go to Tenkiller with some guys I met yakin at Bixhoma. I might go up there Sat or Sun and then meet you Mon. Will let you know as the weekend unfolds.

Thanks for the invite!

I haven't switched to lithium batteries yet. I can go to Costco, buy those megapacks of batteries for a really good price, and burn through them on all of my electronic items.

I'm still wary of lithium; they work well, and they are quite the rage, but there are a lot of negatives. The big negative is using them around water; they can be quite dangerous under certain conditions. They are also not as "environmentally friendly" as many believe, at least no better than what we have now unless you do some logic wrangling (e.g., more power means less need for batteries, equals less waste...).

Lithium bateries surely make nice power sources for laptops and power tools, though! ;)
