Kayak Angler magazine is officially an award-winning publication thanks to Aaron Reed. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department news editor and author of the Falcon Guide to Paddling Texas recently placed second in the Humour category at the Texas Outdoor Writers Association’s Excellence in Craft competition. Reed’s award-winning article, “Up a Creek” appeared in the summer/fall 2008 issue (V2, I2) of Kayak Angler magazine and related Reed’s unfortunate experiences during an evening of kayak fishing when he found himself up a creek without a paddle (or so he thought). Of his award win, the ever-humble Reed told Kayak Angler editor, Tim Shuff, “I just want to say thanks for the opportunity.”
Reed’s other articles for Kayak Angler magazine include profiles of Dean Thomas and Fil Spencer, a news report on the Heroes on the Water program and an essay titled “Lost in the Moment” in which Reed explores what happens when an angler enjoys the kayaking more than the fishing (V2, I1 spring 2008).
